If you are a performer, whether it be a singer, a dancer or even simply speaking on stage, having a great soundcheck is simply essential, not only will this make sure you sound fantastic but will also help you avoid any unwanted issues during your time on the stage. Over the years we have worked with thousands on the stage and using our experience we have put together some top tips for helping you make sure your next soundcheck goes smoothly!

The first thing to remember is why we have a soundcheck in the first place, and the answer is simple! After spending so much time rehearsing and getting your performance just right, it would be a shame to see all your hard work go out the window if the audience can’t hear you properly. Having a soundcheck alleviates this and will get you sounding at your best.

In fact, a lot of the preparation for your soundcheck can be done during your rehearsal. It is here where you can use the time to know exactly what you need to hear to make sure your performance is where you need it to be.

What they are of course is entirely your own preference, but we would suggest that you think about what you really need to keep your performance in time and on point. What is essential? The best monitor mixes usually only feature two or three elements of the complete mix, having a think about what yours should be will help you at soundcheck.

Once you know what you need, our next tip would be to simply work with your sound tech! Don’t forget, an audio engineer is there to help you sound fantastic. By being prepared you can let them know what you need straight away, and this will help you both in getting the sound you both need for a great show.

We should also mention that there is no need to panic if you hear any feedback or volume variations during your soundcheck. Audio equipment is very sophisticated and each venue poses a new challenge in finding the right peaks. So if your hear some sharp feedback, it is a good thing as your audio engineer is setting the levels correctly for your performance.
