Thumbs up for Stephen Sutton Mini Festival

Stephens-Story-300x199

You’ll all have heard of Stephen Sutton, the inspirational teenage cancer sufferer who sadly passed away in May earlier this year.  Diagnosed with terminal cancer aged just 15, Stephen became a beacon of hope throughout his tragically short life and touched the lives and hearts of many people.

Stephen proactively approached the last few years of his life, fulfilling a “bucket list” he had drawn up, which included a skydive and playing drums in front of 90,000 people, as well as setting up a Just Giving page in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.  Stephen initially set out to raise £10,000 but ultimately raised over £3.2 million.  Stephen’s campaign raised the largest amount of money from any JustGiving page, receiving hundreds of thousands of donations.

Before Stephen passed his friends and family had been planning to set up a mini festival in his hometown of Burntwood, Staffordshire.  Although he did not live to see the event come into fruition, his family and friends are continuing his dream in order to carry on raising money after his death.

The event, aptly named Thumbs Up for Stephen Sutton, a title chosen in memory of the inspirational selfies he would post of himself with his thumbs up, is due to take place this weekend.

The team at Precise Events heard about the event whilst listening to Free radio in Birmingham.  Stephen’s family had asked for help to put on the event and we got in touch, speaking live with the presenters on the breakfast show.  The Precise team are heading south to supply the main stage, sound, crew, lighting and live streaming the event.

Acts performing at the festival include U2UK, Bon Jovi Experience, Souled Out, The Assist, Liam Parkinson, Nick Aslam and The Pelatons.  The event will raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and will take place at Burntwood Rugby Club’s bowl.

Wristbands are available to buy at a cost of £8 for an adult, £4 for under 18s and £20 for a family of four.  They can be purchased from Burntwood RUFC, Belle Fleur Florist on Swan Island, Studio 42 and Addiction on Morley Road.
